What I Need to Do
The “What I Need to Do” tool provided by Exemplars is a combination
of a rubric and a guide for students. This tool provides a way for students to
organize their thoughts while they are reading, thinking and writing. It also
has self-regulation built into it where the students are guided to do things
like check for mistakes, provide evidence for their thinking, and tasks to
complete. It can help with science literacy because it provides prompts for the
students to make connections, evaluations, and recall. These are showcased by
some of the prompts under “What I Need to Do” in the tool.
