Comics in the Classroom

In this episode of Lab Out Loud, Dale and Brian interview teacher Chris Preece about how he implemented comic book creating into his science classroom. The idea is that students have to synthesize information they’ve learned into creating a comic book story. The task of creating a comic book comes with visualization built into it, and students will also be making connections of science and their experiences to create a meaningful, coherent story. Evaluating will also be a key part of revising and editing their story. I feel, for these reasons, creating a comic book is a fun, engaging way for students to increase science literacy (not to mention, what an awesome and creative activity!).

  1. I think including comics in the classroom is an awesome idea! It lets the students express themselves in the classroom. Comic books would allow the students to visualize the information so they are receiving it in another way and they also have to recall it in order to make the comic. It would be super cool to see this in a class.
