Strategy Lesson Reflection

I think, overall, our strategy lesson was effective at explaining Post-It Notes and went fairly smoothly. I think one really nice thing we did was model the strategy before we had everyone else attempt it by themselves. It provided some scaffolding for people that had never seen this strategy before and it gave them an idea of how much and what to write specifically instead of them not being sure of what would be an appropriate question or statement to write. There was one thing that we encountered that was a little bit of a difficulty and that was how to provide a note taking opportunity for everyone. Since we were presenting a Post-It Notes strategy, what better way to take notes and actively use the strategy than using the Post-It notes themselves. Josh had a great idea coming up with that. If there was something I would change about the presentation, it would be that at the end of the activity we would discuss a question or a few main ideas as a whole class to summarize the article. I had this thought in my head to do a discussion as a whole class but I felt that the activity may have taken a little longer for everyone to complete than anticipated so there was a rush near the end to wrap up the presentation. Which, I happen to think, is a very real experience we will have as educators.
